Am Sonntag, gegen 18.30 Uhr, bemerkte eine Zivilstreife des Verkehrsdienstes mehrere Rollerfahrer, die mit mehr als den erlaubten 50 km/h durch Störmede fuhren. An einem der Fahrzeuge war kein Versicherungskennzeichen angebracht. Als die Gruppe in der Pankratiusstraße anhielt, wollten die Beamten sie kontrollieren. Als der Fahrer ohne Kennzeichen erkannte, dass es sich um Polizeibeamte handelte, die ihnen gefolgt waren, versuchte er zu flüchten. Er fuhr mit hoher Geschwindigkeit weg, verlor nach einigen hundert Meter auf der regennassen Fahrbahn die Kontrolle über den Roller und kam zu Fall. Trotz des Sturzes flüchtete der junge Mann zu Fuß weiter. Er hatte Pech, dass der nachfolgende Polizeibeamte ein Ausdauersportler ist. Obwohl der Beamte drei mal so alt ist wie der Flüchtige, konnte dieser ihn nach ca. 1000 Metern einholen. Wie sich später herausstellte, war der Roller nicht versichert und technisch manipuliert. Da der 18-jährige Verlarer nicht im Besitz der erforderlichen Fahrerlaubnis ist, wurde Anzeige wegen Fahren ohne Fahrerlaubnis und ohne Versicherungsschutz erstattet.
